High School Seniors, Transfer Students, and Current UHD Students are invited each year to compete for nearly 180 scholarships worth approximately $1500 - $3,000 per academic year (fall/spring semesters) from UHD and Scholars Academy grant funding. Automatic Entrance for Freshmen & Transfers through UHD Merit Scholarship Awards

  • Be offered and accept a UHD Distinguished or Merit Scholarship (Renewable 2-4 years w/ minimum GPA of 3.5). Consideration requires UHD Admissions application completed by Dec. 1; SAT scores (1040 minimally); Top 10% graduating class w/TSIA2 of >945/5 Eng.; >950/6 Math
  • Be enrolled as a UHD full-time university student (12-15 credit-bearing hours) and enter as a member of the Scholars Academy
  • Complete an SA E-Application
  • Register for Freshman Seminar (1303) or University Seminar (2303) or Workshop linked to SA

Entrance for High Performing Freshmen

  • Minimum unweighted overall 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) (competitive) UHD Admissions application completed by Dec. 1; SAT scores (1040 minimally); Top 10% graduating class w/TSIA2 of >945/5 Eng.; >950/6 Math;
  • Credit for at least pre-calculus in high school preferred; be enrolled as UHD full-time student
  • Complete an SA E-Application & submit all required items listed
  • Upon acceptance into SA, register for Freshman Seminar (1303) or NS 2190 course linked to SA (advisors determine course)

Entrance for [Non-Merit] Transfers or Current UHD students

  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale) in college within last 4-5 years; 75 hours of college coursework; Be a postbacc
  • Be enrolled as a full-time student (12-15 credit hours minimum) at UHD
  • Complete an SA E-Application (see link below) & submit all required items listed
  • Upon acceptance into SA, register for University Seminar (2303) and/or workshop linked to SA

Application Requirements

  • Acceptance into the Scholars Academy also requires UHD admission. Go to www.applytexas.org and create an ‘ApplyTexas” Account to apply for UHD admissions and complete the application payment.
  • One-page typed statement of your academic and professional goals (during and after college). Upload to UHD Scholarship Portal application
  • A 1-2 page resume or curriculum vita. . Upload to UHD Scholarship Portal application
  • Transcript(s) from high schools and colleges obtained by UHD; Standardized exam scores (i.e. SAT, ACT) to UHD or uploaded to application. Unofficial copies are accepted. If already accepted by UHD admissions, these are not needed.
  • Two electronic recommendations from current Math/Science/English instructors or counselors (see link below). [Only Merit/Distinguished recipients do not need to complete]
  • Completion of FAFSA/TASFA application for UHD is recommended (do not send copies to the Scholars Academy)
