First-Gen Gator Competitive Scholarship
This competitive scholarship is designed to help support first-generation college
students at the University of Houston-Downtown. Specifically, the scholarship will
assist first-generation students with tuition assistance at UHD and embedded consultation
and support with staff from the Gator Resource Center, with a monthly scholarship
check-in as a requirement.
Benefits:
- Competitive scholarships of up to $2,000 per year; $1,000 per semester.
- Embedded consultation and support with staff from the Gator Resource Center.
Eligibility Criteria:
- First-generation college student
- Continuing students
- Earned 60 hours or higher
- Full-time
- Minimum 2.7 GPA
- Transfers students 2.7 entering Fall 2025
Application Process:
- Students who meet the eligibility criteria above are asked to complete an essay up to 600 words.
Topic: How do you plan to use your degree to positively impact your family and community?
- Submit the application (application to be posted soon).
- Deadline to apply and submit essay to UHD for consideration is November 14, 2025.
- A committee reviews essay submissions for those who meet the eligibility criteria before a final list of students are identified and notified via email.
- Notified students must accept the scholarship award by the deadline given.
- Students who meet the eligibility criteria and submit essay are not guaranteed a scholarship as institutional funds are limited and contingent upon funding from one year to the next.
Renewal Requirement for Spring 2026:
- Must be enrolled full-time each term.
- Maintain a 2.7 cumulative GPA by the end of academic term.
