Congratulations! Welcome to the University of Houston-Downtown (UHD)! Your experience at UHD begins with New Student Orientation. We are so excited to welcome you to campus! 
 
New Student Orientation is a mandatory experience for incoming students where you'll begin your transition to UHD and become acclimated to campus. During orientation, you will meet with an advisor, register for classes, learn about campus life, meet other Gators and connect with the UHD community. 
 
New Student Orientation is designed to prepare you for your first semester and beyond at UHD.

Follow the steps below to sign up for New Student Orientation:

    1. Log in to myUHD or by visiting uhd.edu/myuhd
    2. Select the Orientation tile
    3. Click “RSVP for Freshman Orientation” link to view available sessions
    4. Choose a Freshman Orientation session and complete the registration form

To be advised and register for classes at Orientation, you must have submitted your BMV Immunization record before Orientation. For assistance with submitting your record, read the Bacterial Meningitis Upload Instructions.

To be advised and register for classes at Orientation, you must have your TSI scores before Orientation. For assistance with submitting your TSI scores or to schedule a TSI test, visit the TSI Assessment website.

To be advised and register for your classes at Orientation, you must have  submitted your official transcript to UHD. For more information visit the Official Transcript Submission website.

At New Student Orientation, all incoming students will complete academic advising and class registration.

 

Do I Have to Attend New Student Orientation? 

  • All incoming freshmen students are required to attend New Student Orientation.  At Orientation, freshmen will complete both academic advising and class registration. 

  • All 2026-2027 high school graduates are REQUIRED to attend New Student Orientation regardless of if they are transferring credits into UHD.  
    Transfer students who have been to a community college or university and have not graduated from high school in 2026-2027 are strongly encouraged to take part in New Student Orientation, however, it is not required.

  • Please note: Virtual orientation is available only to transfer students. First-time freshmen must attend orientation in person.

If you were admitted for the Fall 2026 term and did not enroll, please contact us at orientation@uhd.edu for your next steps.
You will be required to complete a new admissions application.

Registration for New Student Orientation will open on October 19. Once admitted, you will receive an invite to sign up.

Freshman Orientation programming consists of a mandatory one-day experience for incoming students where you'll begin your transition to UHD and become acclimated to campus. During orientation, you will meet with an advisor, register for classes, learn about campus life, meet other Gators and connect with the UHD community.
Registration for New Student Orientation will open in March 2027 for students planning to enroll in the Summer or Fall 2027 terms.


Orientation Fees and Refunds

As part of the orientation experience, there is a one-time orientation fee of $125. This fee helps cover the cost of various orientation activities, materials, meals, and events designed to ensure a smooth transition to university life. All orientation fees for students are non-refundable. The orientation fee will be added to your tuition and fee statement.
