Application to the Teacher Education Program

Teacher Candidacy Application Deadlines
Spring 2025 (Spring Start) October 15th
Summer 2025 (Summer Start) March 15th
Fall 2025 (Fall Start) June 15th

 

Requirements to apply to the Urban Education Educator Preparation Program (EPP):

  • Minimum 2.5 overall GPA (including grades from all colleges/universities attended)
  • Successful completion (with a grade of "C" or higher) in all of the following: ENG 1301, ENG 1302, MATH 1301, Life & Physical Science, and American History components
  • Students must be within the last 12 hours of completion of Academic and Preparatory Major classes before applying to the EPP

Please review the following information carefully:

Applications for EC-12 Special Education, 4-8 ESL, and Secondary will ONLY be accepted for a spring/fall semester start. There will not be a summer start for these certifications.

Instructions to Complete the Urban Education Teacher Candidacy Application 

Before you start: Make sure all OFFICIAL transcripts from outside institutions (LSC, HCC, etc.) have been sent to the University of Houston-Downtown. Your application cannot be evaluated without access to this information:

  1. Log into Tk20/WatermarkTM at https://uhd.tk20.com using your UHD Username and Password (For example, Janedoe@uhd.edu would log in with the user name: doej and password).
  2. Select the green tab toward the middle of the page titled: Create New Application. 
  3. Select UE Teacher Candidacy Application 
  4. NOTE: In accordance with TEA’s policy and as part of the Application process at UHD, all prospective Urban Education candidates will participate in an Admission Interview. You will need to video-record your interview and submit the link within the Application.
  5. Contact the UHD Cashier's Office to pay the $35 program application fee. Your application will not be processed without a receipt showing that this fee has been paid.
  6. Once you reach the bottom of the screen, you will see several options:
  • SAVE: Return Later
  • CLOSE: Exit and withdraw your application
  • SUBMIT: Send your application for official review
  • PREV: Return to previous page
  • NEXT: Button inactive

    7. When your application is ready, enter your initials and click Submit to send your application for official review.
