Inclusive Teaching Fellows Workshops
Building an Inclusive Learning Community via Collaborative Annotation Microcredential
Collaborative annotation is a learning activity that promotes student engagement with classmates, the instructor, and instructional materials. By implementing the Perusall app, a collaborative annotation tool available in Canvas, instructors can build an inclusive learning community through active learning and providing access to high-quality, cost-free materials.

The Structural Advantages of Online Asynchronous Education
September 16, 2025 from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. in ACAD 625
Online asynchronous classes are easier for students to fit into their schedule and do not require a commute to campus. These are natural advantages of OA classes, but the academic world tends to look at OA an overall step down from the traditional face-to-face classroom experience. In this workshop I will challenge this view. I will look beyond the surface-level advantages in scheduling and convenience, and explore how OA classes have inherent pedagogical advantages over face-to-face classes. The workshop will end with a discussion about how to leverage these advantages to create more inclusive and inviting OA classes. The talk will also include results from a short survey of online asynchronous student engagement.
