About the Staff

Meet The Bayou Review Staff

Each semester The Bayou Review recruits students interested in creative writing and the visual arts as editors. The staff includes a managing editor and two genre editors (poetry and prose). The magazine also welcomes the participation of students wishing to gain knowledge of literary magazine production while earning internship credit.

Fall 2026 Editors

Alyssa Santiago is an English major at the UHD. She plans to become an English teacher. She loves being outside in the sun and often takes her 3 dogs on long walks or to the dog park. She enjoys reading romance novels, doing crafts, juggling, and spending time with her family and boyfriend.

Ashley Grossman is a senior at UHD pursuing her English degree with a particular love for literature, creative writing, self-exploration, and creativity. Outside of academics, Ashley can be found reading, drawing, knitting, or spending time with her cats and Icelandic Sheepdog. She hopes to continue her studies in English with a Master's degree and eventually help guide new students as a professor at a community college.

Manuel Martin is just a guy trying to survive life and make his mark on the world. He's an English major with a Creative Writing concentration at UHD. His preferred genres are horror and science fiction. He plays video games and loves to explore and learn about the world-building and lore from his favorite video games, movies, tv shows, and books alike!

Shea Ellen Jones is a Houston native and a lover of classic literature, Shae is senior at UHD majoring in English Literature.

Faculty Advisor

Dr. Lau Cesarco Eglin (she/ella/ela) is a poet and translator from Uruguay. She is the author of six collections of poetry, including the chapbooks Break a Part (Finishing Line Press, 2026) and  Between Gone and Leaving—Home (dancing girl press, 2023). Her poems and translations (from the Spanish, Portuguese, Portuñol, and Galician), have appeared in many journals such as Zócalo: Public Square, Asymptote, Figure 1, Eleven Eleven, Puerto del Sol, Copper Nickel, SRPR, International Poetry Review, Tupelo Quarterly, Columbia Poetry Review, Timber, and more. Cesarco Eglin's latest book in translation is Sardine by the Galician author Miriam Reyes (Ugly Duckling Presse, 2026). Cesarco Eglin is the translator of claus and the scorpion by the Galician author Lara Dopazo Ruibal (co•im•press, 2022), longlisted for both the 2023 PEN Award in Poetry in Translation and the 2023 National Translation Award in Poetry. She is the recipient of the 2019 Best Translated Book Award for her translation of Of Death. Minimal Odes by the Brazilian author Hilda Hilst (co•im•press), which was the winner of the 2019 Best Translated Book Award. Cesarco Eglin is the publisher of Veliz Books and teaches creative writing at the University of Houston-Downtown.
