Dear Faculty, 
 
The UHD Campus Compass Workshop Series gives faculty a chance to learn more about UHD, including its programs, services, and campus priorities. Through conversations and presentations from departments and offices across the university, faculty can discover helpful resources, stay informed about campus initiatives, and explore opportunities that support both their work and student success. The series also helps build connections across campus, encourages collaboration, and makes it easier for faculty to engage with the wider UHD community.
 
☀️Wednesday, September 2, 3pm - 4pm 
 
Title: Building Ramps, Not Steps: A Guide to Supporting Students in the Classroom
Speaker: Martina Johnson, Director of the Accessible Education Center (AEC)
 
Description: During this interactive session, Martina will work with instructors to explore practical strategies for implementing student accommodations within their unique course structures. She will provide an overview of the legal responsibilities related to supporting students with disabilities, explain the process students follow to request accommodations, and discuss how faculty can collaborate effectively as part of the support team dedicated to student success. Participants will leave with a clearer understanding of how to interpret and apply accommodations in ways that are both compliant and meaningful within their classrooms.

Title: Getting to Know Student Counseling Services
Speakers: Naomi Berger-Perez, Director of Counseling Services and Tim Coulter, Assistant Director or Counseling Services 
 
Description: Please join counseling services leadership in a conversation about services that are offered to enrolled students, as well as the presenting challenges we often hear about.  We look forward to your questions and concerns about situations that you've faced and are happy to discuss best practices and what has been helpful from a student's perspective.

Title: Community Engagement and Service Learning 
Gabriel Durham, Director of Community Engagement and Service Learning 
 
Description: Gabriel will present on how faculty can build community engagement and service-learning opportunities into their courses. 
 
 
All presentations are held virtually and recorded. A calendar invitation with the Zoom link will be sent to all faculty before the event.
