The CTLE invites you to the kickoff of their four-part Lunch & Learn series: Motivating Meaningful Learning.
Series Overview:
Join the CTLE for a four-part Lunch & Learn workshop series focused on creating learning
environments that foster student motivation, deepen engagement, and promote meaningful
application of learning. Sessions will explore practical, research-based strategies
for strengthening motivation, designing active learning experiences, creating authentic
assessments, and clarifying expectations through rubrics and visible criteria.
Attend 3 out of 4 sessions to earn the Motivating Meaningful Learning pathway badge!
All workshops will run from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm on the noted dates.
1. Making Learning Matter
Help students understand where they are going, why their learning matters, and how
course activities connect to meaningful outcomes. In this workshop, faculty will explore
practical, research-based strategies for increasing motivation, making purpose visible,
and strengthening alignment among learning objectives, instruction, and assessment.

2. Engagement by Design
Move beyond content delivery to create learning experiences that require students
to think, participate, and apply their knowledge. This workshop will explore ways
to transform readings, videos, and other instructional materials into active learning
opportunities that foster engagement, interaction, and deeper learning in an era of
generative AI.

3. Authentic Assessment of Learning
Design meaningful learning activities that make student thinking visible and encourage
the application of knowledge beyond the classroom. Faculty will explore approaches
for creating authentic assessments that promote real-world problem-solving, reflection,
and the transfer of learning across contexts.

4. Learning Made Visible: Rubrics and Clear Criteria
Clarify expectations, make quality visible, and support student self-assessment while
creating a more efficient grading process. This workshop will introduce practical
strategies for designing transparent assignments, effective rubrics, and feedback
practices that improve student learning and streamline evaluation.
