Why do local politics matter? Find out at the first installment of the Fall 2026 President’s Lecture Series entitled “Leading with Purpose: A Conversation with Houston City Council Members” at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 24, on the 11th floor of One Main Building.
Moderated by Interim President Deborah E. Bordelon, Ph.D., this President’s Lecture celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with a candid conversation with Houston City Council Members Joaquin Martinez (District I) and Julian Ramirez (At-Large Position 1).
In addition to discussing the relevance and impact of the heritage month, they will address:
- How city government works
- The daily life of a city council member
- Houston City Council’s successes and challenges
- How to work with people who have wildly different positions
- Pathways to civic service.
