GatorServe is a time-honored UHD tradition that underscores a shared culture of caring. As a university community, Gators meet annually for the two National Days of Service in remembrance of 9/11 and to commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. It’s a special time for Gators every year, but the upcoming GatorServe will be especially poignant.
This year marks the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence as well as the 25th anniversary of the September 11th tragedy. In honor of these coinciding important dates, this fall's GatorServe from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday, September 12, will benefit the Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr.
Gators will join other volunteers through JustServe to align and clean headstones as well as rake, clean, and sweep the grounds. In this way, Gators will amplify their time and energy by joining with others to honor U.S. veterans and their families. The day will begin with a special ceremony with comments from those who were at Ground Zero.
All supplies and training will be provided, and volunteers will receive a free event shirt and catered lunch! Volunteers are required to register.
