Most students probably don’t know the importance of the role of the Registrar in their academic careers, let alone the importance of the Registrar in the life of the university. It’s a big job, and we are happy to welcome Ramiro Hernandez, MPA, as our new University Registrar.
He oversees student registration, degree and enrollment verification, and academic records management. Come graduation time, the Registrar’s Office manages the graduation application process and provides the actual diplomas that proud Gators have worked so hard to earn. Finally, alumni turn to the Registrar for transcripts, essential in the pursuit of graduate studies.
Hernandez holds a Master of Public Administration and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Texas A&M International University, as well as a Certificate in Nonprofit Leadership and Management. He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Education in Leadership and Higher Education at St. Edward’s University.
Driven by firsthand experience, Hernandez has dedicated his career to expanding access, removing barriers for students, and helping institutions better serve their communities. Most recently, he served as Manager of Academic Record Services at the University of Texas at Austin after working as Registrar for UT’s Dell Medical School where he collaborated with cross-functional teams on university-wide initiatives.
Prior to joining UT at Austin, Hernandez held leadership roles at the University of Texas at San Antonio and Laredo College. He has also worked closely with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, supported accreditation and audit efforts, and guided institutions through periods of organizational change.
Outside of work, Hernandez is kept busy by his three dogs. He also enjoys a good game of bingo and is currently on a mission to explore Houston's best hiking trails, welcoming any recommendations.
