Charge

Reviews and approves all research projects affiliated with or conducted at the university involving human subjects as per PS03.A.23 - Protection of Human Subjects. Please note: The research enterprise at UHD is not confined to the 9-month, academic year. IRB committee responsibilities span the 12-month calendar year. All IRB committee members are expected to conduct all IRB activities, including IRB application reviews, throughout the 12-month calendar year for the duration of their three-year service term. Faculty representatives will be compensated for efforts outside their contract period, within additional compensation guidelines.

Composition

The committee's faculty membership is composed of tenured or tenure-track faculty. Faculty membership includes one representative from each degree granting college. In addition, two faculty representatives are appointed from departments with significant research agendas utilizing human subjects.

Non-faculty membership on the committee includes at least one non-scientific university staff member and one community representative not associated with the university.

Two additional positions on the committee include the Director of Pre-Award Services and a representative of the Provost's Office. The representative of the Provost's Office serves in an ex-officio capacity and has no voting rights.
